Coastal outdoor tiles

Coastal outdoor flooring needs to handle salt, sand, and bare wet feet — so spec textured matte porcelain in 20mm pavers, rated R11 or higher for slip. Warm-sand, driftwood-grey, and pale travertine-look pavers all read coastal without competing with the view. Continue inside the same tone in a 10mm thinner format for a seamless threshold. Avoid polished, avoid dark — sun-glare and heat absorption both kill the outdoor experience.

Coastal outdoor — questions

Why 20mm pavers instead of regular outdoor tiles?
20mm porcelain pavers can be laid on pedestals, sand, or gravel without adhesive — much faster install, no risk of efflorescence, and they can be lifted to access plumbing. They're the standard for contemporary alfresco and pool surrounds.
Will a pale paver get too hot underfoot?
Pale tones (sand, bone, pale grey) stay 10–15°C cooler than dark pavers in direct AU summer sun — which is exactly why coastal homes pick them. Dark charcoal pavers can hit 60°C+ and burn bare feet.
Are travertine-look pavers slip-safe near a pool?
Textured travertine-look porcelain pavers are typically rated R11–R12, which exceeds AU pool-deck minimums. Real travertine is slip-safe too but requires sealing and shows salt damage; porcelain is the maintenance-free upgrade.
