Mediterranean ensuite interior with tile

Terracotta, zellige, sun-bleached stone

Mediterranean ensuite tiles

A Mediterranean ensuite is small, warm, and material-rich. Spec a terracotta or warm-clay porcelain floor in a small or medium format, then run a hand-glazed zellige in cream, sage, or warm ochre full-height in the shower. Pair with brushed-brass tapware and a small stone or carved-timber vanity. The brief is sun-bleached, lived-in, slightly imperfect — never new and shiny. Keep grout warm and joints visible.

Mediterranean ensuite — questions

Can I do Mediterranean in a small ensuite without it feeling busy?
Yes — pick one zellige colour for the shower walls, one matching terracotta-tone porcelain for the floor (and run it up to the shower threshold), and let those two materials do all the work. No mosaic borders, no second feature wall.
What format zellige fits an ensuite wall?
100×100mm or 100×200mm zellige is the canonical square. Smaller mosaics fight the look — Mediterranean is about confident hand-made tiles, not micro-mosaic detail. Run them straight-stacked or in a brick-bond depending on cabinetry.
Will zellige's irregular surface trap soap and grime?
Zellige's glazed surface wipes clean easily — the irregularity is in the surface profile, not the porosity. Pick a pH-neutral cleaner; avoid abrasives which can scratch the glaze. Real zellige needs occasional re-glazing of any chipped pieces.
