Mediterranean outdoor tiles

Mediterranean outdoor floors are about texture and warmth underfoot. A textured travertine-look porcelain paver in warm cream or honey is the canonical choice — looks like the courtyard of a Tuscan villa, but at 20mm with R11 slip rating it handles wet feet and AU UV without sealing. Pair with terracotta planters, olive trees, and warm-timber pergola joinery. The whole alfresco reads like a sun-baked Italian courtyard, not a backyard.

Mediterranean outdoor — questions

Travertine pavers or terracotta pavers outside?
Travertine-look porcelain pavers in warm cream are the most versatile — work poolside, on courtyards, and around alfresco kitchens. Terracotta pavers read more rustic and work brilliantly in walled courtyards but can feel busy in large open spaces.
Will travertine pavers stay cool in summer sun?
Pale travertine porcelain (cream, honey) stays 10–15°C cooler than charcoal pavers in direct sun — comfortable to walk on barefoot through an AU summer. Dark travertine looks dramatic but absorbs heat; pick by climate.
Do real travertine pavers need sealing?
Yes — real travertine needs a penetrating sealer at install and re-application every 12–18 months in AU UV. Porcelain travertine-look needs zero sealing and won't develop pitting from salt or pool chemicals. Same look, no maintenance schedule.
