About terrazzo
What is terrazzo? Terrazzo is a composite flooring material originating in Venice — traditionally a mix of marble chips, glass, quartz, and granite set in cement or epoxy. Modern porcelain terrazzo-look replicates the aesthetic without the cost or complexity of real terrazzo installation.
Floor tile vs slab — what's the difference? Floor tiles (600×600mm, 300×600mm) are standard format — installed like any other floor tile. Slabs (1420×2530mm, 1250×3050mm) are large panels used for benchtops, bathroom walls and feature panels. They're cut to size on-site.
Where does it work? Bathroom floors, kitchen floors, laundry floors, alfresco areas. The honed finish and neutral palette read very clean in both contemporary and heritage interiors.
Ordering terrazzo
Always order a sample. The chip pattern and colour tone vary between the screen and the physical tile. Our sample service is $15 flat for up to 5 samples, credited back against your full order.
Grout colour. Match to the background colour of the tile — not to the chip colour. Light warm grey or off-white grout typically works best for the neutral terrazzo palettes.
Order 10% more than your measured area. Standard wastage for square lay. Add 15% for diagonal or feature layouts.

Terrazzo questions
Is terrazzo back in style?
Yes — terrazzo has had a major revival in residential design since around 2018 and shows no signs of slowing. Modern terrazzo ranges in pastel and warm tones (rather than the 1970s grey-on-white) read contemporary and pair well with timber and warm metals.
What's the difference between terrazzo tiles and terrazzo slabs?
Tiles are smaller pre-cut pieces (typically 600×600 or 300×600mm) for floor and wall installation. Slabs are 1420×2530mm or 1250×3050mm large-format pieces used for benchtops, full-height shower walls and feature panels. Slabs cost $1,700+ each but eliminate horizontal joints.
Can I use terrazzo outside?
Yes — but you need a 20mm structured paver from an outdoor-rated range. Indoor 10mm honed terrazzo isn't UV-stable and can fade. Several ranges offer matching indoor/outdoor terrazzo so you can run the look from kitchen to alfresco.
Does terrazzo need sealing?
Modern porcelain-bound terrazzo is non-porous and never needs sealing. Cement-bound terrazzo (the older traditional style) is porous and requires sealing every 1–2 years. Marmoré's terrazzo range is porcelain-bound — zero maintenance.
